Alsons Consolidated Resources Raises P1.6B to Boost Power Projects

Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. (PSE:ACR), the publicly listed company of the Alcantara Group, has successfully listed P1.6 billion from the first tranche of its P3 billion Commercial Paper (CP) Program on the Philippine Dealing and Exchange Corporation (PDEx). The initiative provides ACR with a cost-effective means to support its working capital requirements and further expand its power portfolio.

ACR Deputy Chief Financial Officer Philip Edward Sagun emphasized the company's commitment to addressing the nation's growing demand for reliable and affordable power. “This Commercial Paper program provides us with an efficient and cost-effective way to support our working capital requirements, enabling us to fulfill our mission of unlocking potential and empowering progress in Mindanao and beyond,” Sagun stated.

Energy Expansion

The company continues to strengthen its renewable energy initiatives, with several hydro and solar power projects currently in various stages of development. In 2024, ACR completed construction and commenced commercial operations of its first hydropower facility—the 14.5-megawatt Siguil Hydro Power Plant in Maasim, Sarangani.

ACR remains a key player in Mindanao's power sector, supplying electricity to major cities and provinces through its 237-megawatt Sarangani Energy Corporation baseload power plant. The plant serves areas including Sarangani Province, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, Dipolog, Dapitan, Pagadian, Samal, Tagum, Kidapawan, and Butuan. Additionally, ACR provides ancillary services to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines through its 105.8-MW Mapalad Power Corporation in Iligan and 107-MW Western Mindanao Power Corporation in Zamboanga.

ACR is expanding its footprint beyond Mindanao with the development of the 95.2-megawatt Bohol In-Island Diesel Power Plant in Ubay. This project, the company's first outside Mindanao, is designed to provide a reliable backup power source for Bohol, ensuring a continuous electricity supply when the province is isolated from the Visayas grid due to calamities or natural disasters.

In addition to power generation, ACR is also expanding its Retail Electricity Supply (RES) business. Since its launch, the RES unit has secured power supply agreements totaling up to 43 MW with Holcim Philippines and Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc. “We are optimistic about the expansion of our Retail Electricity Supply unit as we continue to enhance our market presence, improve our operational capability, and develop our power assets,” Sagun added.

With its latest fundraising effort and ongoing energy projects, ACR is poised to further solidify its role in the country's power industry, providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions across the Philippines.
